Candlex Limited has donated K432 000 to Tertiary Education Students Sports Association of Malawi (Tessam) squad to participate in the week-long Confederation of Universities and Colleges Sports Association (Cucsa) Games in Lusaka, Zambia.

Candlex director of operations and marketing Fredrick Changaya said the donation will cater for accommodation expenses for the team’s doctors and matrons at the international event.

“As a Malawian company in the health and hygiene industry, we thought the best area to support was that of the squad’s health personnel. So, we encourage the squad to get as dirty as they can at the event because the laundry soap manufacturer is behind them,” said Changaya.

The company also gave the team five cases of U-Fresh laundry soap and a similar quantity of Butex luxury soap.

Tessam technical members Chifundo Tenthani and Martin Matululu received the cheque and thanked Candlex for the support on behalf of the 79-athlete squad, which has been camping at Lilongwe University of Agriculture and Natural Resources (Luanar) for the past week.

The squad comprises athletes in various sports disciplines of football, basketball, netball, lawn tennis, chess and athletics. The athletes have been drawn from Chancellor College, Polytechnic, College of Medicine, Kamuzu College of Nursing, Mzuzu University, Malawi College of Health Sciences and Lilongwe Technical College.

“We are over the moon with the support we have obtained from Candlex,” said Tenthani.
